Land of Giants (Cello and Piano) is the third life of one idea. It began as Reckoning, a techno track: a four-chord loop in B flat minor, a root-and-fifth pulse, and a four-note cell that falls a step, drops a third and climbs back. It grew into Land of Giants, a symphonic movement led by trumpets and brass. This is that movement with the orchestra taken away. What is left is the bones. The cello sings the cell and its developments where the brass sang them; the piano keeps the ground and answers between the phrases; the low end of the cello does the work the timpani and low brass used to do. There are no drums, no fanfares and no crash at the return. Where the orchestra gathered and struck, this version keeps its weight and lets the harmony carry the tension: the same key, the same chords, the same length of road, with a fraction of the notes.
